Nirav Doshi, Managing Director,
Nido Machineries Pvt. Ltd
Q.1.Tell us what sets Nido Machineries apart as India’s leading company in Material Handling industry? How different do you think we are today, if you look back?
Nido Machineries has always been unique in the sense that we have focused on providing customers with solutions catered to their needs and not selling specific products. Our innovations / product offeringsthat meet customer needs and that too within budgets, set us apart. Since we get equipment contract manufactured, our focus is not production, but delivering value to customers. We have the flexibility to incorporate the newest and best technologies and innovations in a very short time. We are fast to bring in offerings that challenge the status quo.
India is a very price sensitive market and customers are not willing to pay extra for safety and ergonomics. Our focus has been on bringing in better ergonomics and safety into the system at existing price points. This can be very well understood from our recent product launches.
Let us take an example of a seasonal business like grape harvesting. During peak season due to the extra work load, extra equipment for mechanized material handling is required. It is possible to find extra labor, but investing into expensive equipment for 2-3 months does not amount to a good ROI. We have started our new offering (www.smartrentalz.com) of spot and short term rentals, where companies can rent any equipment for any time frameanywhere in the country at logical price points.
Earlier the focus was purely into delivering high quality products. Although product quality is still important, solutions catered to the consumer needs are more important. Now as an industry we are moving away from product offerings to solution offerings.
Q.2. What have you to say about the price sensitivity in the market that effecting the industry?
Price sensitivity is both a boon and a curse. Price sensitivity originates from the cost-benefit ratio delivered by the entire value chain. A customer is sensitive to pricing mainly because his customer is sensitive to his pricing and so on. Price sensitivity keeps manufacturers and suppliers on their toes to come up with unique solutions to solve problems to deliver the most benefit in the least cost. India is not an easy market for a lot of the international suppliers to come in and do business as their solutions and pricing to those solutions are too expensive for the perceived benefit by the customer. Price sensitivity leads to good work around solutions, but not innovations. It reduces the pace at which newer technology is adopted by the industry. But once the technology is adopted, the price sensitivity leads to work around solutions which help in making the technology wide spread fairly quickly.
Q.3. Could you throw some light on the Chinese products and future of it?
Chinese products have come a long way in a very short span of time and they are definitely here to stay. Although the Chinese products lack great innovation or ingenuity, they make good quality, stable products which serve the purpose and open the market for users with a lesser budget to go for automation. In a price sensitive market like India, Chinese products help in making the more sophisticated equipment and technology commonplace – easy for everyone to lay their hands on.
Q.4. Do you have any latest product launch?
As mentioned earlier, we are a constantly evolving and growing company. We have 3 new launches this year. We have the new Semi Automatic Pallet Truck – the ease, simplicity and price point similar to a hand pallet truck, but with the benefits of a driven equipment. Then we have our Power Driven Semi Electric Stacker – a semi electric stacker with the benefits of a driven equipment – the idea is to promote ergonomics and safety at the same price points as the hand pushed equipment. The third launch is our AGV kit, which can help convert your regular equipment into a full fledged auto guided vehicle. Now say goodbye to labor problems and work 24×7!
Q.5. How do you think forums like India Warehousing Show, playing a key role in preparing industry for the changing times ahead?
Forums like the India Warehousing Show play an important role in preparing the industry and all the stakeholders for the changing times ahead. Such forums act as a platform for the best in the industry to meet, interact, showcase innovations, exchange ideas and understand the needs and wants of the consumers. It also helps people learn about the industry and becomes a great tool for knowledge and information sharing. The times ahead call for the industry to work together and not against each other. Such platforms help in universal growth.
